I’m Sorry Guys…April Fool’s. (Affiliate Island)

affiliate island

Sooooo this is a tad awkward.

I really did not expect the positive response I received. I guess I went a bit overboard with the Photoshopped map of the island. I’m feeling a little guilty here!

I’m obviously an April Fool’s Day newbie. I think my one and only hint on the post was a wee bit subtle. If look at the first letters from each new paragraph, it spells April Fool’s. I also mentioned on my twitter (follow me for the most fascinating tweets on the twittersphere) that submarine transport has been arranged, leaving from New York going to Maldives. I posted late night on the 31st March New Zealand time knowing you guys would catch me green handed if I went with US time. Obviously I have high expectations for you lot!

Fact or Fiction:

  • Kuvanya Island: Fiction
  • Cousin real estate agent and Maldivian girlfriend: Fiction
  • Only Maldivian citizens can buy land: Fact
  • My dream of constantly hoping round the world “working” with industry friends: Fact (I’ve actually spoken to others about some traveling affiliate commune)
  • My comments about recently introduced submarine internet, reef tsunami protection, and 80% of land being 1 meter above sea level: Fact
  • I am really in The Maldives: Fact
  • I am sorry: Fact

The Silver Lining.

I’ve learnt three things from this experience.

1. I suck at April Fool’s jokes. No need to comment any further.

2. My copy writing skills ain’t too shabby. It took a whole 30 comments and a very slick tool for the first person to crack the fact. He used tinyeye.com to check out the photo of the island, very smart! Even my roommate believed it.

3. There is a demand for a high class affiliate conference. I received quite a few emails from affiliate networks feeling left out and affiliates wanting in. This got me thinking seriously. No, I’m not going to buy an island to cater for affiliates. But a 6 star affiliate conference at a resort in The Maldives for 5 days is totally achievable. It would be an experience that wouldn’t be forgotten. To give you an idea on how nice this place is here are a few photos I took this month:

I have been thinking hard and chatting to a few people that can help make this happen. No April Fool’s here, I’m trying to make this happen.

Thanks to you guys, I’ve been inspired. I’m very seriously going to look at this now. I am sorry, but amazingly this has shined the light on something new and exciting when I have been craving a stimulating project for a while.

If anyone is interested in getting involved, or just keen to be updated with the news just hit me up.

Forgive me?

Mr Green
