Hopefully you took the time to read through Part 1 of my “3 Streams Of Traffic Most People Swear Are Useless” series. If you did, you’ll remember that I covered the most responsive of the 3 that I wanted to share with you – which were list builders.
Now, let’s start talking about the 2nd most responsive stream Of “useless” traffic: Safelists.
Safelists are very similar to List Builders because you can send your ad via email to other members of the safelist you are a member of. So basically, a safelist is a membership site where all the members agree to receive email advertisements from each other.
Just about all of them are free to join, but just like list builders, free members are extremely limited in the amount of members they can mail their offer to as well as how often they can mail their offer.
Here’s an example of what I’m talking about. Herculist is a safelist that has been around for a long time, at least 5 years!! They have a membership base of 51,828 users. As a free member, you can mail to only 700 members just ONCE PER WEEK. And on top of that, you’re message is limited to just 500 words! It’s not even worth it to use it at that point. But Wait! Doesn’t Herculist Have Over 50,000 Members? YES!!! And as an upgraded member, you can mail to ALL members once per day, which is pretty much how it works for every safelist.
Now, each safelist varies slightly in how often you can mail to them and how many members you can mail to depending on your membership. But, just about every safelist will allow you to mail to ALL members anywhere from once or more per day to once every couple of days.
Now, there are two types of safelists that you need to be aware of. There are the standard safelist and then there are credit based safelists. The standard safelist is just that – standard. You can mail to other members of the safelist once per however often they let you depending on you membership level.
The other type, and more responsive type, are the credit based safelists. The deal with these is that members can earn mailing credits by clicking on a link in the email advertisements they receive from other members to view the site.
So, they are basically forced to see your page if they want to earn mailing credits – which they will need anyway if they want to mail their ad. Plus, they have to stay on the page for a set amount of tie (usually at least 15 seconds). This is why they are more responsive. Because they have to see your site if they want to earn mailing credits.
Plus, many credit based safelists also have the standard mailer as well. Either way, as with the list builders, make sure you upgrade your account to as many safelists as your budget will allow you to as it will increase the amount of times you can send your ad and the amount of members you can reach per each message sent.

Also, I really wanted to get into the type of message you will want to send to the safelists, but I’m just about all out of space for this article As far as the site you’ll want to send them to, it’s the same as you would send to the list builders – something of value that requires your visitor to give you their name and email address in exchange for whatever it is you’re offering.
